In Times Like These, Please be Kind to One Another
When individuals go outside of themselves to either help another or do something outside the box a basic humanistic reason to doing so is to be recognized and rewarded. It's very built in on the idea of the ego, and the idea of instant gratification. Although, understandable, it's not very sustainable, and more importantly the idea becomes a lot harder to fulfill as far as gratification goes as you do more of it.
The goal ultimately needs to be the idea of doing good and living within your values and demonstrating the skills sets you were meant to present in the world. If we do that, we will be satisfied with the outcome regardless. That will lead to a sustainable happiness and drive within us to continue creating and giving to others. The idea has to become fully embraced in the true aspect of helping others and not looking at it from the idea of "what do I get out of it." This sounds very simple, but ultimately it can be difficult to get to a level where you fully submerge into the idea of letting go of the ego and ultimately being one with the environment around you and it's well being. How do you do so? I'd say small wins matter. Take the time to build up what you do.
Try small activities whether it's smiling at another genuinely to help uplift there day or even offering the final piece of a shared dish to your friend versus taking it yourself. These small wins will infiltrate within you and help cultivate a giving which will become more genuine and ultimately your being. This will lead you to being the version yourself we've all been working to become.
